HOOD EBA keeps things lively. The 2020 blend consists of Mourvèdre and Grenache, plus a pinch or Roussanne, it presents as broad-shouldered and boisterous, but pulls back with poise. It fairly flings itself out of the glass with aromas of raspberry, strawberry and blackberry confections, figs, and a touch of nutmeg--plus murmurs of jerky. On the palate, polite-enough-to-be-mature tannins take over your mouth. Then there are juicy raspberry-vanilla compote flavors, the aforementioned jerky, and hints of cedar. It races across the palate with more candied strawberry, stewed plum and blackberry. For all its ample zeal and giving body, the Hood EBA is not just another blowsy red--it has complexity and balance for days.
